AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

1 bottle of Vino Tinto La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 1976.

Vintage rating Rioja as Good.

The bottle is perfect, no leaks, with the normal tone of a 50-year-old wine.

It has always been well stored.

Shipping €13 only to Spain.

Viticulture: A portion of Tempranillo comes from the winery’s oldest own vineyards located in the Rioja Alta subzone, mainly from the municipalities of Ollauri, Rodezno and Cenicero. The rest is Mazuelo and Graciano from the Melchorón I and II estates in Briones and Rodezno. A small part of the blend was purchased after selecting grapes from the best plots of local producers, with the condition of containing enough sugar to produce a minimum 12% alcohol and without blending with white grapes.

Winemaking: Selection of grapes upon arrival at the winery. It remains 8 to 10 months in the large century-old grey oak tuns that founded the winery, where malolactic fermentation completes and stabilizes. Aged in 225-liter American oak barrels for a minimum of 72 months, with a total of 12 manual rennings to remove lees and allow slight aeration. Bottled in mid-1983. A minimum of 42 months of bottle aging before marketing.

Tasting note: Very light mahogany ruby color, medium-low depth, clean, dull, matte. Orange reflections. Wide coppery rim, hardly any meniscus difference. Little sense of body, does not form tears.

Initial aromas of fine reduction (leather, noble woods, horsehair) giving way to a thick reductive base but less fine: waxes, wet fur, animal, copto incense, antiquarian… You can feel the passage of years, it’s slow to open. Patience is needed. After a couple of hours, fruit liqueur and more marked toasts begin to appear, carbon, ground laurel, smoked pepper.

Light, very light, gentle, approachable, easy to drink, with a lime-like acidity but enough. The tannin is elegant, fine, velvety, accompanied by a discreet wood and vanilla taste. Round, classic, friendly, immediate. It is a pleasure to drink, although overall one would expect much more. One of the 904 most discreet sampled. Could it be the bottle? Correct in every way, but not exciting.

Each batch is shipped individually and there is no possibility of grouping since the transport rate used is MONO-BOTTLE.

The condition is never guaranteed; it is a collectible wine.

I am not responsible for a cork drop inside the bottle during transport.
If shipping to countries with low temperatures such as Norway or Finland and the wine freezes, I am not responsible.

Due to increased temperatures in the summer months, I am exempt in case any bottle could suffer a leak due to heat, vehicle, or improper storage by the transport company.

It is a new item, never opened.

To note:
When wines are so old, it is better to let them rest again in the winery for up to 2 months so the sediment settles. To improve tasting, it is advisable to open the bottle 2 hours before drinking for better oxygenation.

If you are buying in the Balearic Islands, the selling price increases; an EXTRA will be added since shipping to the mainland is not the same as to the ISLAS. Payment will be by Bizum or Bank Transfer.

Shipping will be via Old Logistics.

No returns accepted.
