Description from the seller

Refined Russian icon from the 20th century depicting Saints Boris and Gleb, the first martyr saints of the Russian Orthodox tradition, sons of Vladimir the Great of Kiev.
The work is entirely hand-painted with a pictorial style that faithfully recalls the ancient Byzantine and medieval iconographic tradition. The faces of the two princely-martyr figures show intense and hieratic expressive traits. Their rich noble robes are decorated with complex and meticulous ornamental motifs.
The composition is enhanced by a background in gold leaf, which lends great brightness and spiritual depth to the subject. The two saints are depicted with their typical attributes: the cross of martyrdom in the right hand and the sword of the princely line in the left.

* Subject: Saints Boris and Gleb (Roman and David)
* Estimated Era/Period: 20th century (Twentieth century)
* Country of origin: Russia
* Technique: Hand-painted on a wooden panel with details and gold leaf background
* Dimensions of the panel: 29 x 19 x 3 cm
