Description from the seller
An extraordinary and rare mid-century studio ceramics vase by the renowned Italian artist Elio Schiavon (1925–2004) in proven collaboration with Gunther Erhart. The collectible piece dates from the 1960s to early 1970s and captivates with its expressive, modernist design.
The vase is crafted in a characteristic, organic-figurative form that evokes the body of a stylized female figure or a mythical creature. On the front, there is a meticulously crafted, hand-painted face in Schiavon's typical cubist/abstract style. The belly area is adorned with a three-dimensionally raised, colorful sunflower in warm orange and ochre tones. The edges and accents are glazed with a deep violet-blue and charcoal glaze, providing a harmonious contrast to the light base.
Each of these pieces, through freehand craftsmanship and painting, is a unique piece of Italian postwar Modernism. A striking highlight for any collection of Italian art ceramics or as a sculptural statement piece in a modern interior.

• Origin: Italy (Padua)
