Description from the seller

an exceptionally elegant and finely detailed hand-carved wooden sculpture of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Madonna). This high-quality religious art piece breathes the atmosphere of mid-century European craftsmanship and is presumably from the flowering period between 1950-1970.

High-Quality Craftsmanship & Materials

The sculpture bears witness to absolutely professional craftsmanship and has been carved with great precision from high-quality Alpine maple wood (bergahorn). This wood is known in the art world for its very fine, dense grain and light texture, which enables razor-sharp details. This is directly visible in the refined, flowing folds of the falling mantle and the serene, devotional facial expression of Mary.
Thanks to the specific properties of the maple wood, the sculpture weighs only about 350 grams despite its generous height of 31 cm. The surface is masterfully finished with transparent, two-tone oil-based stains (a deep olive-green mantle combined with warm honey- and wood tones), making the natural, characteristic wood grain beautifully visible and tangible throughout.
• Base finish: The solid wooden base is finished on the underside with traditional, authentic red felt to protect valuable furniture from scratches.
• Model number: In the red felt lies the original serial or catalog number 1194 stamped, confirming the professional atelier provenance.
