Description from the seller
No reserve price!
Important 19th-century French jardinière (Jardinière) in repoussé brass, circa 1890 (Late 19th century – Historicist period / Napoléon III style).
Elegant and opulent central table jardinière (cachepot) of oval shape, a representative specimen of refined French metalwork from the late 19th century (c. 1890). The piece stands out for its body richly worked in the repoussé and chasing technique, displaying a continuous high-relief decorative frieze with classical mythological figures of cherubs (putti) in festive and dancing scenes.
The structure rests on four sturdy legs ending in stylized lion paws (claw feet), giving great stability and an imposing presence to the piece. The upper edge features a molded finish in a double concentric frieze. Inside it retains the rare removable original zinc liner, an essential component of the period designed specifically to protect the noble exterior metal from the humidity of floral arrangements and soil.
It is in quite good condition and with a lovely patina
