Description from the seller
Title: Large patinated bronze sculpture “Cupid / Angel” – Attributed to Auguste Moreau – 62 cm
Description:
Charming and important late 19th-century sculpture (Napoleon III period) in solid bronze with a bronze base also depicting Cupid (the angel of love) in a dynamic pose, with a drape around the waist and wings spread. The bronze terrace is richly decorated with floral relief motifs showing original nuances of polychromy.
Stylistic attribution:
Although the piece bears no visible signature on the terrace, all artistic and technical elements clearly converge toward the work of the famous French sculptor Auguste Moreau (1834-1917).
The graceful, airy treatment of the subject, the typified cherubic face with finely curled hair, the fluid, light drapery in motion, and the bucolic composition of the flowering terrace are the indisputable visual signature of the master’s creations. It is a high-quality art cast from the period with veryFine execution.
• Origin: France.
• Material: Genuine bronze with nuanced brown patina and polychromy details on the flowers.
• Dimensions: Remarkable total height of 62 cm (to the tip of the raised fingers).
• Subject: Allegory of Cupid captured in full impulse, right arm raised to the sky (which originally held his bow or another attribute).
• Weight: Very heavy (solid bronze). [Pensez à indiquer le poids exact ici].
Condition:
Very good overall condition for a bronze from this era. Magnificent original ancient patina, no major structural loss. The absence of a signature does not diminish the superb quality of chisel work or the remarkable presence of this sculpture thanks to its large 62 cm size.
A rare opportunity for collectors of classical French art from the second half of the 19th century. Highly secure shipping with reinforced professional packaging.
