Description from the seller
Refined sculpture depicting a winged putto reclining on a relief-decorated cushion with capitonné motifs and tassels on the corners. The work is made in glazed ceramic/majolica in a monochrome cream-white color, with a suggestive and extensive craquelé effect (craquelure of the glaze) distributed uniformly over the entire surface, typical of period works.
The figure shows an excellent rendering of details: the curls of the hair, the definition of the feathers on the wings, and the softness of the anatomical forms recall classical Neoclassical models revived between the early 20th century and the Art Deco period.
At the bottom there are the typical vintage vent holes for firing and a reinforced ribbed structure. Although there are no visible signatures, the workmanship, glaze quality, and the base confirm the date as an antique (early 20th century).
Subject: Winged putto/cherub on a cushion
Material: Majolica/pired clay glazed (Crackle Glaze)
Color: Cream-white/ivory
Era: circa 1920–1930
Provenance: (France)
Dimensions: Length 28 cm | Height about 18.5 cm | Depth: 12.3 cm
Condition: The object is in overall excellent condition, structurally intact and without restorations. The glaze retains its original luster with homogeneous craquelé.
Only two micro-chips are noted (minuscule chips) on the lower part of the front-left foot of the cushion (visible frontally in the lower left), and on the face (left side)—elements that do not compromise its stability or aesthetic rendering. Please refer to the attached images for a detailed view of the conservation status.
