Description from the seller

Title: Before the Dance

School: European Impressionist School (20th century)

Style: Interior Impressionism with a costumbrista influence

Technique: Oil on canvas
ㅤ
Circle and artistic influence:
The work is inscribed in the tradition of European interior painting of elegant scenes, combining resources typical of Impressionism with a marked sensibility to everyday life. The depiction of a bourgeois, richly decorated environment, the attention given to furniture and attire, as well as the luminous and relatively loose treatment of the surfaces, refer to the tradition of social and genre scenes developed between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. There is also an evident influence from 19th-century interior painting, reinterpreted through a freer and more atmospheric execution.

Interior scene titled Before the Dance, featuring two elegantly dressed ladies who appear seated on the far left of a spacious salon. Their dresses, in blue and grayish tones, stand out against a room dominated by warm ochre, earth, and gold hues.

The interior is carefully constructed through a deep perspective that leads the gaze toward the large central mirror. The room presents abundant decoration: ornate chest of drawers, large vases, paintings, chandelier, rug, period furniture, marble fireplace, and decorative screen. The mirror contributes to visually enlarging the space and adds depth to the composition.

The presence of the two figures, apparently immersed in preparations or moments before a social event, gives the scene a narrative and intimate character. The overall mood conveys the refined atmosphere of a bourgeois interior and a certain nostalgic evocation of 19th-century social life.

The work is presented with a wide dark wooden frame, stepped profile and molded ornamentation. Its sober finish, with repetitive reliefs on the inner area, provides depth to the whole and contrasts with the warm, luminous tones of the painting. It shows visible signs of age and use consistent with its decorative character.

Notes:

The work may incur damage during transport even with proper packaging. In such a case, we will require photographs of the damage to proceed with compensation. Customer satisfaction is always our priority.

Excepcionally, shipping costs may be affected by an surcharge due to reasons such as being outside a continental territory, excessive dimensions, or weight of the item. PremiArt will not cover this surcharge in any case.

The courier that must cross the Swiss border may experience far greater delays than usual, so, if possible, to speed up processing, we will provide the customs number that is holding the shipment so the customer can unlock it and have it reach its destination. Experience has taught us that this is the most effective solution for both parties.

Due to the high volume of shipments, orders may be delayed by more than three days, for which we apologize and thank you for your patience. Any questions about your order, please contact us via internal messaging
