Description from the seller
Title: The Sevillana
School: European Realism, 20th century (1950)
Style: Figurative realism / genre portrait
Technique: Oil on canvas
Circle and artistic influence:
Work linked to the sphere of mid-20th century European figurative painting, within a tradition of realistic portraiture with some influence from the elegant and genre Spanish portrait. The composition, the detailed treatment of the face and hands, as well as the importance given to clothing and accessories, recall the society portrait models developed during the first half of the 20th century. The brushwork becomes freer and more expressive in the flowers and the dress, providing chromatic dynamism against the more meticulous treatment of the features.
Half-body female portrait in which a woman elegantly dressed appears, represented in a slightly turned position with her gaze directed to the side. The model wears dark hair carefully styled, a pearl necklace, earrings and a gold bracelet.
The highlight is her dress in vivid colors, resolved with loose brushstrokes in shades of red, blue, yellow, green and white. On the lap and between her hands she holds an abundant floral arrangement, whose execution is freer and more impasted, creating an attractive contrast with the more precise finish of the face.
The background, executed in grayish, greenish and bluish tones, remains deliberately diffuse to focus attention on the figure. The luminous halo surrounding the head reinforces the portrait volume and provides depth to the composition. In the lower right corner there is a signature accompanied apparently by the date 1950.
The work is presented with a gilded molded wooden frame, of classical taste, decorated with vegetal motifs and relief ornaments distributed especially in the corners and the centers of the crossbars. It features a finish in gold and ocher tones with an aged look, in keeping with the decorative character of the painting.
Condition:
The work shows signs compatible with its age and use. It is recommended to assess the general state through the provided photographs, especially regarding the pictorial surface and the frame.
Notes:
Exceptionally, shipping costs may be affected by an extra charge due to causes such as being outside a continental territory, excessive dimensions or weight of the item. PremiArt will not cover this extra charge under any circumstances.
The courier that must cross the Swiss border can be delayed much more than normal, so, if possible to speed up the process, we will provide the customs number that is delaying the shipment so that the client can unlock it and thus reach its destination. Experience has shown us that this is the most effective solution for both parties.
Dimensions: 89.5 × 76.5 cm
Dimensions without frame: 73 × 60 cm
The work may incur damage during transport even with proper packing. In such a case, we will require photographs of the damages to proceed with compensation. Customer satisfaction is always our priority.
Due to the high volume of shipments it is possible that the order is delayed by more than three days, for which we apologize and thank you for your patience. If you have any questions about your order, please contact us via internal messaging.
