Description from the seller

Title: Shepherdess and her Goats

School: European Impressionism (19th century)

Style: Impressionism of genre and rural themes

Technique: Oil on canvas

Circle and artistic influence:

Work linked to the realm of European genre painting and 19th-century rural landscape, within a tradition interested in representing simple scenes of peasant life. The composition shows influences of naturalism and 19th-century genre painting, with particular attention to the relationship between the human figure, animals, and the surroundings. The atmospheric treatment of the landscape and the relatively loose brushwork also link it to trends that in the second half of the 19th century culminated in the Impressionist language.

The composition portrays a pastoral scene featuring a young peasant girl accompanied by several animals. In the center stands a profile view of a donkey, while several goats are scattered around a trough, adding movement and depth to the scene. Behind the animals appears the shepherdess, dressed in traditional clothing, whose figure introduces the human and narrative component of the composition.

The landscape unfolds through earthy tones, subdued greens, and a range of grays and ochres that create a serene, slightly misty atmosphere. The low horizon and wide sky contribute to the sense of open space. The work conveys an idealized and tranquil vision of rural life, a very present theme in 19th-century European painting.

The work is presented with a prominent carved wooden frame finished in gold and brown tones. It features abundant vegetal decoration of large leaves, volutes, and calado curvilinear motifs, especially visible in the corners and along the sides. A dark inner molding creates contrast with the painting and visually emphasizes the scene. The frame shows signs of age and wear consistent with its decorative character.

Condition:
Restorations are present. Due to its age, the work and the frame may show signs of use, wear, small losses, craquelure, or interventions typical of the passage of time.

Dimensions:
With frame: 59.5 x 75.5 cm
Without frame: 34 x 55 cm

Observations:
The work may incur damage during transport even with proper packaging. In that case, we will require photographs of the damages to proceed with compensation. Customer satisfaction is always our priority.

Exceptionally, shipping costs may be affected by an surcharge due to factors such as being outside a continental territory, exceeding measurements, or weight of the item. PremiArt will in no case cover this surcharge.

The courier that must cross the Swiss border can experience much longer delays than usual, so, where possible to expedite the process, we will provide the customs number that is holding the shipment so that the client can unlock it and have it reach its destination. Experience has shown this to be the most effective solution for both parties.

Due to the high volume of shipments it is possible that the order is delayed by more than three days, for which we apologize and thank you for your patience. If you have any questions about your order, please contact us via internal messaging.
