Description from the seller

Title: After the Storm

School: European Impressionist, 19th century

Style: Landscape Impressionism

Technique: Oil on panel

Circle and artistic influence:

Work linked to the tradition of 19th-century European impressionist landscape, with influences from en plein air painting and from the naturalist currents that focused on atmospheric and luminous changes in the landscape. The loose brushwork, the subdued palette and the capture of wet ground after the rain recall the approaches developed by French landscape painters of the second half of the 19th century and by painters close to the Barbizon School, subsequently assimilated by Impressionism.

Rural landscape depicted under a cold, damp atmosphere, apparently moments after the passage of a storm. The composition is articulated by a wide expanse of foreground terrain, crossed by pools of water that form puddles and irregular reflections. These elements visually lead toward a line of dark vegetation and mountains that close the scene in the distance.

The painting stands out for its loose, spontaneous, gestural brushwork, especially visible in the vegetation and in the water surfaces. Earthy tones, grayish greens, ochres, blues and blacks predominate, creating a sense of humidity and light contained after the rain. The clear reflections on the puddles contrast with the dark masses of the landscape and add depth to the composition.

The artist’s interest seems to focus more on conveying the atmospheric conditions and the visual impression of the moment than on a meticulous representation of the terrain, a trait fully related to Impressionist sensibility and to landscape painting executed directly from nature.

The work is presented with a dark brown wooden frame, sober design and stepped molding. It includes an inner black molding that defines the painting and creates an elegant contrast with the muted tones of the landscape.

Observations

Due to its age, it shows restorations and may exhibit signs of use and aging compatible with a 19th-century work.

The work may incur damages during transport even with proper packaging. In that case, we will need photographs of the flaws to proceed with compensation. Customer satisfaction is always our priority.

Exceptionally, shipping costs may be affected by a surcharge due to reasons such as being outside a continental territory, excess dimensions or weight of the item. PremiArt will not cover this surcharge under any circumstances.

The courier that must cross the Swiss border can take significantly longer than usual, so, if possible, to expedite the process we will provide the customs number that is holding the shipment so that the customer can unlock it and ensure it reaches its destination. Experience has shown this to be the most effective solution for both parties.

Due to the high volume of shipments, orders may be delayed by more than three days, for which we apologize and thank you for your patience. If you have any questions about your order please contact us via internal messaging.
