Description from the seller

Title: Saint Paul

School: European Renaissance (16th Century)

Style: Renaissance

Technique: Oil on panel

Magnificent representation of Saint Paul, a work attributed to the European Renaissance school of the sixteenth century that reflects the period's interest in naturalism, compositional balance and the dignification of sacred figures. The apostle is depicted half-length, with a serene and contemplative expression, carrying the sword, his most characteristic iconographic attribute, symbol of both his martyrdom and the power of God's word. In the other hand he holds a book, alluding to his epistles and to his fundamental role in the spread of Christianity.

The composition places the saint before a mountainous landscape with a city in the background, a common Renaissance device to provide spatial depth and contextualize the scene. The figure stands out for the quality of the facial modeling, the careful rendering of the beard and hair, as well as the treatment of the drapery in ocher, greens and blacks. The soberly worked golden nimbus reinforces his sacred status without breaking the chromatic harmony of the whole.

The execution reveals a precise technique and solid drawing, characteristic of Renaissance painting, where the balance between anatomy, perspective and illumination creates an image of great devotional strength and notable formal elegance.

Observations:

It shows restorations.

The work may incur damage during transport even with proper packaging. In such a case, we will need photographs of the damages to proceed with compensation. Customer satisfaction is always our priority.

Exceptionally, shipping costs may be affected by a surcharge for reasons such as being outside a continental territory, excess dimensions or weight of the item. PremiArt will not cover this surcharge under any circumstances.

Due to border issues with Switzerland we are obliged to inform you that shipments with more than 1 meter in length or height to that destination will not be carried out.

Due to the high volume of shipments, it is possible that the order is delayed more than three days, for which we apologize and thank you for your patience. Any questions about your order please contact us via internal messaging.
