Description from the seller
Giacinto Gigante (1806–1876) – Landscape with figures – Watercolor on paper – School of Posillipo
Elegant and refined watercolor referring to Giacinto Gigante (1806–1876), renowned Neapolitan painter and landscape artist, among the leading exponents of the School of Posillipo, an artistic movement that contributed deeply to the renewal of Italian landscape painting in the 19th century.
The work depicts a suggestive countryside landscape, characterized by a wide view with rural architectures, trees and small figures that animate the composition.
The scene is dominated by a delicate luminous atmosphere, achieved through subtle tonal transitions in the shades of ochre, sepia, green and gray.
Particularly interesting is the sensitivity in the rendering of light and spatial depth. The architectures in the background, the trees and the figures are described with a light and spontaneous stroke, with a refined alternation between drawing and watercolor glazes.
The composition presents stylistic characteristics attributable to the landscape tradition of the School of Posillipo, in particular to the naturalistic and atmospheric sensibility of Giacinto Gigante.
The watercolor is presented within an important decorative frame with carved foliate motifs and green and gold finish, completed by a light mat and a gold inner profile.
The frame visible in the photo is included as a courtesy and does not constitute an integral part of the work.
Any damages to the frame will not be a valid reason for claims or cancellations, nor for the
Glass.
