Portrait of the author engraved by Vosterman after D. du Monstier. The first edition of this book was published under the care of the poet Fr. d'Arbaud, sieur de Porchères, to whom Malherbe, his cousin, had entrusted the task shortly before his death. A second edition was published the year after the first: apart from the title page and the Discours sur les Œuvres de Mr de Malherbe, which has an additional paragraph, it may be a reissue of the first printing; the imprint is dated December 22, 1629, as for the first edition.

Condition: Binding: some minor rubbing and shadows otherwise good. Interior: ex libris, an old manuscript on the title page, a few pages somewhat browned and a few scattered foxing marks otherwise fine. Beautiful copy.
