DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK
Inspiration and Iconography:
Elegant and intimate oil on canvas depicting the famous composition "Lavandaia sulla terrazza", a masterpiece of genre painting by the Neapolitan master Vincenzo Irolli (1860-1949).
The work vividly captures the warm Mediterranean light that illuminates the female figure at work, with strong chiaroscuro contrasts on the terrace wall, terracotta pots, and the characteristic wooden tub. The brushwork reproduces with excellent color rendering and vigor the "macchia" and luminosity typical of the Neapolitan school of the early twentieth century.
Provenance and Era (Era Detail):
On the back of the frame is the historic original label of the renowned frame and art workshop "Marcos y Gravados", located at Paseo de Gracia, 34 in Barcelona (Spain).
From the analysis of the telephone number shown on the label (which changed to 6 digits at the end of the 1940s), the framing and creation of the work can be dated with extreme precision to the decade 1948 - 1958.
Condition:
The work is presented in generally good condition, with a natural patina of the era. The canvas is well stretched on the original frame. Included is the antique gilded wood frame, ready to hang.
