Description from the seller

Oil on an oval panel, North Italy, 18th century. Here I see a Christ scourged, alone, bound and crowned with thorns, within a roundel. The rendering is much more archaic than the first canvas: background almost black, simplified anatomy, strong frontal presentation, and treatment of the wounds with small red brushstrokes. Some aspects may also indicate a later revival of ancient models. Lombard ambit, probably the second half of the 18th century, with a revival of a devotional seventeenth-century language. Oil on an oval panel. SIZE cm 35 by 30. Good overall condition.
