Description from the seller

Oriental Side Table – Hand-carved Unique Piece in Moroccan-Mauri Stil – Octagonal, with keyhole arches and historic patina

Dear prospective buyers,
what is offered is an old, octagonal side table in the Moroccan-Moorish style. The piece is characterized by its artistic carvings, the distinctive keyhole arches, and the patina that has developed over the years.
In my personal assessment, the table is likely over 100 years old. The pronounced signs of aging, evident wood deformation, and several previous repairs point to a long history of use. A precise dating is not available.
Design and craftsmanship
The octagonal tabletop is decorated with a round, ornamentally designed medallion. From there, geometric carved patterns extend to the outer edges.
The base is also richly carved all around. Stars, diamonds, stylized leaves and rosettes alternate with surrounding ornamental bands.
Particularly striking are the perforated Moorish-style keyhole arches, which give the table its characteristic form. A narrow door provides access to the interior.
The fine irregularities of the carving emphasize the handcrafted character. The dark patina has particularly preserved in the recesses and highlights the individual ornaments.
An interesting feature
The perforated keyhole arches and the opening in the tabletop suggest another possible use.
It is conceivable that originally there was an additional tray inside, on which a candle could have stood. The upper opening could have served as a heat vent. This, however, is speculation; such a historical use has not been proven.
Today, a warm, decorative light display can be produced inside with an LED candle, shining outward through the keyhole arches.
The piece also works as a classic side table, small tea table, or decorative single furniture item, with its own special charm.
Condition and restorations
The table shows clear signs of age and use, as well as various older repairs, some of which themselves already show considerable weathering.
The tabletop has been clamped several times and is currently relatively stable. The wood has over time become noticeably warped in places, especially near the door.
Inside there are additional wooden reinforcements. Different fastening materials, including heavily corroded older nails and newer Phillips screws, indicate different repair phases.
One small wooden strip is missing at an upper corner joint. Other signs of wear include scratches, checking (drying cracks), scuffed edges, and material wear.
At the lower interior of the feet there are worm tracks or boreholes. Whether an active infestation is present has not been investigated.
The table is offered in the described, partly restoration-needed condition.
The photographs document the carvings, construction, previous repairs, and existing signs of use. They are part of the item description.
