Le Roman de Renart by Gabriel Arnaud and Jean Cocteau is a prestige illustrated limited edition (1/25 head) published in 1952 by Les Éditions des Arceaux in Strasbourg, in French as the original language, in a portfolio binding, a large in‑folio volume of 34 x 26 cm, unpaginated and in good condition.
Description from the seller
This is a prestige edition of Le Roman de Renart, published in 1952 by Les Éditions des Arceaux in Strasbourg.
A very rare head print
--------------------------
: The total print run of this work is very limited (about 262 copies in total). Your number (No. 23) is among the first 25 head copies (usually printed on Auvergne paper by Favier or Rives vellum).
A high-value art book highly sought after by bibliophiles.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
According to the publisher's print justification, the first 25 copies are the only ones to include a polychrome (in color) suite of Gabriel Arnaud's lithographs as well as a "bon à tirer" or exclusive stone-engraved ornaments by Jean Cocteau;
This is a large folio volume (in sheets), traditionally protected by an illustrated, pleated cover, a titled cardboard case and a publisher's cardboard slipcase.
Excerpts from the medieval text have been selected and analyzed by the literary critic and university professor Émile Bouvier;
Unpaginated.
A separation from the binding has been repaired. This is, all things considered, quite common for this type of copy, but the interior is in good condition.
