Soldati al falò - NO RESERVE, XX Century oil on canvas by Ivan Karpoff (1898–1970), Italy, sold with its original period frame.
Description from the seller
Author: Ivan Karpoff (1898-1970)
Technique: Oil on canvas
Period: 20th Century
Originally signed by the artist at the bottom right "Karpoff"
Measurements: 81x71; 60x50
The work depicts a genre scene with intense atmosphere: a group of figures caught in a moment of rest around a twilight bonfire in a wooded landscape, foraging to cook with an antique tripod. The piece stands clearly apart from the artist’s more classical output (primarily known for city views and snowy landscapes), revealing in this unusual and rare subject a deep and nostalgic connection with the roots of late 19th-century Russian realist painting (Peredvizhniki School) and with Lombard chiaroscuro.
The painting is appreciated for its tangible, vibrant brushwork, with loose strokes and a color palette skillfully calibrated to the warm tones of the fire that contrast with the earthy hues and the leaden sky in the background.
Condition:
The work presents in good overall condition, in its first varnish and on its original antique wooden frame (bearing pencil measurements on the back). The paint layer is stable, sound, and well adherent to the support.
Tracked shipping with courier.
The painting is accompanied by a substantial period wooden frame. The frame is therefore considered a pure accessory tribute to the artwork.
N.B.
The shipment of the same, upon request, is at the buyer’s expense. I will be available to provide a quote.
