The work depicts an intimate nocturnal scene with a strong intimate and rural flavor: four male figures, wearing the typical wanderer’s or peasant hats, are gathered in a circle outdoors in front of a dark shack. The focal point of the composition is a small central fire (or light point) that generates a vibrant chiaroscuro effect of post-impressionist schooling.
The application of color is rich, dense and markedly tactile, laid down in small brush and spatula touches, giving tridimensionality and dynamism to the golden and amber reflections on the figures’ garments, which emerge from the deep darkness of the background.
The work is enhanced and valorized by its original contemporaneous frame from the 1970s: a rich golden moulding complemented by an elegant and wide rigid passe-partout covered in light linen/canvas, typical of period interior design. The piece comes from a private Sicilian collection (Palermo)
