Lot of three unsigned Indonesian keris hilts, made of wood and horn, including ebony, in good condition with signs of use.
Description from the seller
Lot of three Indonesian kris handles.
Indonesia
Three beautiful Indonesian kris handles (ukiran / hulu keris), presumably from the Bali or Lombok islands.
Two mythical figures, and an erotic scene (perhaps not a kris handle? )
Although many traditional Javanese kris handles are abstract in form, the Bali/Lombok region is known for cutting very detailed, figurative handles. They are often made of hardwood, ebony, or horn.
Features of these handles
• Traditional base (Paksi-gat): At the bottom of the figures you can see the typical conical shape (the metal ring is missing here) through which the handle should slide over the tang (paksi) of the kris blade.
• Mythological figures: The carvings depict figures from Javanese-Balinese mythology and Hindu epics (such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata).
• Meaning: Many of these anthropomorphic beings represent demons (raksasa), mythical monkeys, or protective spirits. They served not only as decoration, but had a spiritual purpose: they were meant to protect the wearer from evil influences and to encapsulate the magical power (batin) of the kris blade.
Dimensions: listed with the photos.
Condition: good condition, of course signs of use.
Photos are part of the description.
These were taken under artificial light; colors may vary. Mood impressions are shown.
They are well packaged and sent by registered mail.
