Description from the seller
Beautiful small painting by Paul Charavel, French painter born in Marseille in 1877 and died at Le Vésinet in 1961.
A pupil of Léon Bonnat and Albert Maignan at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, Charavel frequented Saint-Tropez with Paul Signac, Henri Matisse and Albert Marquet. He devoted a significant portion of his work to Mediterranean landscapes, especially around Saint-Tropez, as well as bathing scenes and landscapes bathed in light.
This small painting, about 15 × 12 cm unframed (20 × 22 cm framed), depicts a picturesque seafront scene. A beautiful Mediterranean composition with local architecture and coastal scenery, ideal for art lovers of this period. It is signed P. Charavel bottom left and dated 1931, under glass in its old mounting with a mat.
The frame has aged, but the painting does not seem to have been affected. It consists of cardboard and glass, taped around the perimeter, from the period and left as is.
