AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Splendid and lively oil painting of Neapolitan school, depicting a typical pastoral and idyllic scene of the nineteenth century.
At the center of the composition, two children play merrily with a goat in a lush mountain setting, rendered with extraordinary sensitivity to natural light and landscape realism.
The color contrasts, the softness of the flesh tones, and the meticulous rendering of the animal's coat testify to the exceptionally high level of execution of the work.
The painting is embellished by an important nineteenth-century leaf-gold frame, richly carved with floral motifs and baroque scrolls, which enhances its visual impact and elegance.
In the lower left corner is the artist's autograph signature.

Note biografiche e storico-critiche sull'autore

Simone Campanile was a refined Neapolitan painter, born in Cava dei Tirreni in 1825. During his training he studied under the celebrated master Filippo Palizzi, and he benefited greatly from that school, absorbing the great lesson of verismo and the direct study of animals and nature.
His best paintings are landscapes where light and amenity are rendered with great truth.
Having not been able to devote much time to art because he was forced to attend to his own affairs, which kept him in Cava most of the year, he produced little and exhibited little.
This limited output makes his works rare and particularly sought after by collectors of late nineteenth-century painting.
Despite his reserve, he participated in the most important exhibitions of the era:
• In Naples, at the National Exhibition of 1877, he had three paintings: “On the Hill,” “The Plain of Salerno,” and “A Cart.”
• In Turin, in 1884, at the Italian General Exhibition there was one of his works: “La Puglia.”
Other notable canvases are: “After the Harvest,” “A landscape of the Cava panorama,” and various animal paintings (a thread to which the present work is masterfully linked).
As a testament to its historical value, the painting “Pianura di Salerno” is today preserved at the prestigious Capodimonte Gallery in Naples.
An artwork of undeniable charm and collectible value, perfect for enriching elegant interiors or collections dedicated to nineteenth-century Italian painting.
