Description from the seller
MARTIN PARR - BORING POSTCARDS - PHAIDON, 2000, MINT CONDITION
A central photobook by the major photographer Martin Parr !
NO RESERVE PRICE !
In Boring Postcards, Magnum photographer and postcard enthusiast Martin Parr had gathered 160 English postcards among the most boring from the 1950s, 60s and 70s, and had turned them into a book which, despite its title, was at once fascinating and extremely funny. The idea seemed so obvious that it seemed incredible that no one had thought of it sooner. In England, Boring Postcards elicited a great deal of reaction, and was the subject of many allusions, from television to art and design magazines, from local press to Time magazine, as well as radio stations (outraged that their town was described as “boring”).
Today, Martin Parr has turned to the United States for his new Boring Postcards book. As in the previous volume, for a postcard to be deemed “boring,” its composition, content or the people it features must reasonably be described as boring, or the photograph must contain no element that could be described as interesting in the usual sense.
The study of postcards is now of interest to the university, so this book is more than just amusement: a folkloric testament to post‑war America’s non‑places and non‑events, it offers a poignant view of its social, cultural and architectural values.
Some descriptive elements:
"A collection of the dullest postcards of 1950s, 60s and 70s America, edited by Martin Parr. Hilarious views of quintessentially ordinary America, including motels, shopping malls, truck stops and interstate highways."
Condition : Excellent ! MINT condition
