Description from the seller
Travel – The Last Confrontation
Sonny Insinna
With Travel – The Last Confrontation, Sonny Insinna continues his Travel series, an ongoing artistic exploration in which animals become symbolic protagonists of a journey away from the violence, destruction, and contradictions of the human world.
Two majestic deer confront each other in a suspended moment of tension. Their antlers intertwine, forming an almost sculptural structure at the centre of the composition. What initially appears to be a struggle for territory and dominance becomes a powerful metaphor for conflict, survival, and the fragile balance between living beings.
The antlers, traditionally symbols of strength and authority, become an obstacle that binds the two animals together. Their confrontation reflects a recurring human contradiction: beings capable of coexistence become trapped in opposition, perpetuating conflicts that often seem impossible to resolve.
In Insinna’s visual language, animals transcend their natural identity to become messengers of a broader reflection on humanity and its relationship with the world. Their presence evokes both strength and vulnerability, revealing how easily the pursuit of dominance can undermine the possibility of coexistence.
The pale, suspended atmosphere creates a timeless, almost deserted landscape, focusing attention on the intertwined figures. Through oil, charcoal, and expressive gestural marks, Insinna combines figurative observation with a spontaneous, layered pictorial language. Visible charcoal traces, transparent passages, and areas of exposed canvas give the composition a sense of instability, reinforcing the tension between the animals and the space they inhabit.
As throughout the Travel series, the journey is not simply geographical. It represents an attempt to escape the monstrosities created by humankind and to search for a place where survival does not necessarily demand conflict.
Travel – The Last Confrontation invites the viewer to consider whether confrontation is an inevitable condition of existence or a fragile equilibrium that can still be transformed.
