Antique Banjo‑style wall barometer with thermometer, dating to an estimated period, made from oak wood, brass, glass and zinc alloy, measuring 520 mm high by 180 mm wide by 50 mm deep, in good used condition with minor signs of age and spots.
Description from the seller
This object is an antique barometer with a thermometer, housed in a decorative carved wooden wall mount. This specific type is also known as a banjo barometer due to its distinctive shape that resembles a banjo.
The instrument combines two functions:
• Thermometer (top): Measures temperature in both degrees Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F).
• Barometer (bottom): Measures atmospheric pressure to forecast the weather. The dial contains Dutch markings such as Storm, Regen or Wind, Veranderlyk, Mooi Weer and Bestendig.
Has been in our family for years, received in 1931 as a wedding gift from my grandfather and grandmother.
It was hidden during the war from the German occupiers, which damaged the glass (cracked, but it is still fine and functions perfectly).
Great for collectors of this antique weather-measuring equipment.
