Watch Description
Rare and fascinating vintage mechanical chronograph dating from the 1970s, distinguished by the unmistakable 38 mm gold-plated square cushion-case design. The geometric shape gives the watch a bold, modern presence on the wrist, superior to the classic 38 mm round watches.
The aesthetic centerpiece is the bi-compax "Panda" style dial: light base with soleil highlights, tritium/gold tone hands and indices, and two deep blue sub-dials (continuous seconds at 9 o'clock and chronograph minute counter at 3 o'clock). The dial is framed by a double scale for speed and distance measurement (tachymeter and telemeter).
Inside beats an excellent Swiss manual-wind chronograph movement with 17 jewels and Incabloc shock protection (Valjoux 7733-based structure), known for its robustness, precision, and ease of maintenance.
Condition Report
Case and Plating: In excellent vintage condition, with the original brushed finish on the case clearly visible and intact gold plating.
Dial and Crystal: Very clean dial, free of patina; glass in excellent condition with no visible scratches.
Movement: Mechanism lubricated and visually very clean, no oxidation on chronograph levers. This is a wonderful chronograph with a horizontal clutch Valjoux 7733 movement; the chronograph can be started when the mainspring is at least 20% wound.
Wishing everyone a wonderful auction!
