A vintage West German onyx octagonal mantel clock from the 1950s–1960s by Mercedes with a mechanical movement, multi‑day power reserve, no striking, winding key included, dimensions 30 × 22 × 10 cm, 1.5 kg, in good used condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
A beautiful and characteristic vintage mantle clock / pendulum from the 1950s/1960s, manufactured in West Germany. This decorative piece combines craftsmanship, mechanical engineering, and romantic art in a classic baroque / rococo style.
Movement & Clock Case:
The heart of this pendulum is a mechanical wind-up movement from the renowned German manufacturer Mercedes (Gebrüder Hauser). The dial is elegantly designed with a gold-colored open-worked center, graceful hands, and clear Roman numerals. The clock sits in a beautiful octagonal clock case of warm yellow-veined onyx (marble).
Decoration & Figures:
The clock is flanked by two very detailed figures made of bisque porcelain (unglazed porcelain). The figures depict a boy and a girl in traditional rural clothing, carrying baskets of fruit and grapes, referencing the classic theme of the grape harvest and fertility. The whole rests on a heavy, solid onyx base and is supported by a richly adorned metal column with a pinecone motif and a Baroque mascaron (face).
Condition:
• Movement: In fully working order. Runs smoothly and winds up well.
• Porcelain: In excellent, pristine condition. No chips, crazing, or missing parts (the delicate fingers and details are fully intact).
• Onyx & Metal: The onyx base and clock case are beautifully glossy and pristine. The metal shows an authentic, light patina that contributes to the vintage character.
An absolute eye-catcher for the vintage clock, curiosa, or classic interior enthusiast!
