AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

SAINT-YVES D'ALVEYDRE (Alexandre). The Archeometer. Key to all religions & all sciences of Antiquity. Synthetic reform of all contemporary arts. Paris, Dorbon-Aîné, 19, boulevard Haussmann, n.d. [1934].

1 volume in folio of 332 pages. 26x33 cm.

Second edition, preceded by a study by Papus on the author and his work. A posthumous work by Alexandre Saint-Yves d'Alveydre (1842-1909), a major figure of French esotericism at the end of the 19th century, the Archeometer was published by the group of the “Friends of Saint-Yves” gathered around Papus. It presents the instrument devised by the author: a circle of correspondences between letters of sacred alphabets, numbers, colors, musical notes, zodiac signs and planets, presented as the common key of religious traditions of Antiquity and as the foundation for a reform of the arts, from architecture to music.

The edition is accompanied, as the title announces, by 5 color plates, 10 portraits and 100 figures and tables. Notably, it includes the large color plate of the Archeometer, the “archaeometric flag,” the portrait plate of the “Friends of Saint-Yves,” the zodiac known as the Dendérah zodiac, the triangles of the Lamb and Mary, and commented plans of sacred edifices.

Half red leather binding, spine with five raised bands, author’s name and title in gilt, boards of comb marbled paper in red, orange and black tones, flyleaves of marbled paper. Orange printed cover preserved.

Condition: spine slightly faded, some rubbing and small marks on the leather and at the headcaps. Interior fresh.
