Impressionistische Ansicht Sarajevos (Orient Vedute), 1913, oil on canvas, 61 × 53 cm, attributed to Rudolf Wimmer, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Attributed to Rudolf Wimmer (1849–1915) – Oriental veduta with minaret and alley in the Southeast European style
Technique: Oil on canvas.
Signature: Signed lower left “R. Wimmer”.
Subject: Sunlit Southeast European or Oriental-influenced street view.
Condition: In age-appropriate well-preserved condition with fine craquelure and strong color retention.
Description
This moody composition captures the tranquil atmosphere of a historic small town in the Balkan or Ottoman region. The view leads along a characteristic cobbled street, flanked by traditional plaster buildings with typical tiled roofs. In the background, against a gentle mountain backdrop, rises the slender minaret of a mosque, giving the work its distinctive Orientalist charm.
Rudolf Wimmer here masters the interplay of light and shadow on the façades with visible, confident brushwork. The warm earth tones of the roofs harmonize elegantly with the cool blues of the mountain range and the sky. A fine collector’s piece of late Romantic-inspired travel painting around the turn of the century.
