Description from the seller
Tissot Research Astrolon Watch (Cal. 2250) - 1970s - Gold-plated case and branded screw-down case back
Announcement description:
For sale, a splendid and rare specimen of the Tissot Astrolon (also marketed as Tissot Research or Idea 2001), a true milestone in watchmaking history. Shown in the early 1970s, it was the world's first mechanical watch with a movement almost entirely made of self-lubricating plastic (SYTAL project).
This specific variant is particularly elegant and less common than the standard clear-plastic models: it features a gold-plated metal case paired with a dark dial with applied indexes. The strong point is the transparent screw-down case back, which allows viewing of the iconic Calibro 2250 mechanical movement with its synthetic colored gears.
CHARACTERISTICS AND CONDITION OF THE WATCH:
• Movement: Manual winding mechanical, Caliber Tissot 2250 Astrolon (Synthetic).
• Case: Gold-plated, cushion-shaped as typical of the 1970s. Shows normal light signs of wear consistent with the age of the item, but the plating is overall well preserved.
• Dial: Dark color, excellent legibility, indexes and hands in perfect aesthetic condition.
• Strap: Brown leather (replaced, not original to the period but perfectly coherent with the watch style).
• Condition of operation: The watch is running well, the mainspring winds properly and holds the charge. However, the mechanism gains time and requires adjustment of the balance wheel rake or a small technical check. Sold as-is, ideal for collectors or enthusiasts who can fine-tune it.
The watch is sold without box and original papers.
