Rare pair of gilt bronze flambeaux with an Empire / Early Restoration vase on a green marble base, each 15 cm high, of French origin.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Pair of bronze chiselled and gilded torches – Antique-style vase with lion muzzles

Empire period / Early Restoration

Pair of small torches resting on a quadrupod base in gilded bronze, supporting a sea-green marble base, itself topped by an Antique-style vase adorned with two handles in the Greek manner terminating in powerful lion muzzles.

The chasing work is of exceptional finesse: guilloché motifs, scale friezes, water-flower motifs and clear reliefs, characteristic of a Paris workshop active in the 1810s–1820s.

The gilding is period and preserved in its original patina, with the typical nuances of the old finish that has not been recut.

A true rarity of the model: these small antique-style vases with orthogonal handles ending in lion muzzles, mounted on quadruped bases and sea-green marble, are not at all common. This is not a standardized mass-produced model.

Dimensions
• Height: 15 cm

Condition
Very good overall condition.
Notable only: a tiny chip on the marble, with no visual or structural impact.
Bronzes perfectly sound, gilding in good condition for its age.
