Description from the seller
Walther & Söhne - Bowl - Amber-colored decoration 'Rotterdam' with swirl relief on three feet • Art Deco • Germany • 1935 - Glass
Walther bowl 'Rotterdam' in salmon-pink glass, with a relief decoration of concentric swirls and three amber-colored feet. The swirls run from the edge toward the center, giving the glass depth, and the edge waves. On a table or sideboard the light rests in each swirl. The model is listed in Walther's 1935 model book.
For this object there is also a Buy It Now price set, for those who want to acquire it immediately without waiting.
Description:
A wide bowl with a diameter of 31 centimeters and a height of 7 centimeters, on three hexagonal feet. The relief decoration consists of three large swirls, each surrounded by rings that widen toward the edge. The round flat surfaces under the bowl are finely grained. The glass is pressed. The feet are solid and color deeper amber. In the 1935 model book Rotterdam is listed as a service with three-footed bowls in multiple sizes.
About the maker:
Karl Gottlieb Walther founded a glass factory in 1865 in Ottendorf-Okrilla, Saxony. In 1888 August Walther took over the factory as August Walther & Söhne and began pressing glass on American machines. In the 1930s Walther produced large pressed glass services, including Rotterdam, with bowls, canisters, butter dishes and carafes.
In interior design:
Suitable for an Art Deco, vintage or eclectic interior, as a fruit bowl on a dining table or sideboard. The amber glass takes on a warm tint in daylight and catches candlelight in the relief.
Condition:
Good, with signs of use. Feet: small surface flakes on the underside. Rim and wall: no chips or cracks observed. The fine bubbles in the glass are production characteristics. See photos. Offered as a decorative object, not intended for use with food.
In a glance:
Material: pressed glass, amber-colored, underside partially stippled
Dimensions and weight: h 7.5 x diameter 31.5 cm, 1165 grams
Brand: no factory mark or signature found
