This landscape painting in the late Impressionist style captures a wide, summery hilly landscape with great atmospheric dynamism.

Gallery analysis & stylistic features

Composition: A swept-out country path leads on the right edge of the image past a mighty deciduous tree deep into the scene. It guides the eye over gently undulating fields to a bluish-looking ridge of hills in the background.

Color scheme: The palette is dominated by strong blues and whites of the broken cloud sky, which reflect in the cool shadows of the distant mountains. In the foreground warm earth tones, greens and small red accents (possibly poppies) provide highlights.

Technique: The brushwork is notably thick and executed with visible, bold brushstrokes. Especially the furrows of the path and the cloud structures appear almost smoothed, lending the painting a tangible texture.

Signature & frame: At the bottom right is the ligatured monogram. The silvered wooden frame with subtle patina stylistically complements the cool color mood of the sky and suggests creation in the first half of the 20th century.
