Description from the seller
Authentic and complete vintage home altar, also known as a hospital communion set (Verisiti set), manufactured in the mid-20th century.
This type of religious object was used at home at the time when a priest would stop by to administer the hospital communion or the Holy Viaticum (the last rites).
The altar is built on a sturdy oak base with a large wooden crucifix in the center.
The corpus (the figure of Jesus) and the INRI placard are detailed in bronze or patinated brass.
The set is exceptionally complete and preserved with all original parts:
Central holy water font: A bowl with a brass rim, mounted at the foot of the cross.
Two bowls: Placed in the recesses of the wooden base, originally intended for ritual cleansing (washing the priest's fingers) or for cotton with holy oil.
Two candle holders: Integrated on either side of the base, suitable for tall communion candles.
Type of object: Home altar / Hospital communion set
Period: About 1950 - 1960
Materials: Oak wood, copper, plastic
Country of origin: Probably the Netherlands or Belgium
