This 1950s Murano mouth-blown glass centrepiece has a ruby-red bowl with fine inclusions, a ribbed clear-glass stem and applied handles containing gold-leaf aventurine, and measures 35 × 29 × 35 cm; it is in good used condition with small signs of age and stains.
Description from the seller
A scenographic and massive cup (or centerpiece) in large-format Murano blown glass.
The work catches the eye thanks to its chromatic and material contrast: the broad upper basin is crafted in a vibrant and deep ruby-red glass, enriched by a dense internal texture of micro-inclusions or bubbles that give tridimensionality to the surface. The cup is elegantly supported by a substantial ribbed stem and embraced by two sinuous side handles applied hot. Both the stem and the handles, made of transparent crystal, enclose a very rich and brilliant inclusion of gold leaf (aventurine), creating a magnificent play of light.
An element of fundamental importance for collectors is the presence, under the wide base in transparent glass, of the evident pontil scar (pontello). This tactile, rough detail, clearly perceptible to the touch, is the intrinsic signature of the master glassmaker: it represents the unequivocal proof of mouth-blown glass and of the entirely handmade craftsmanship of the work, detached manually from the blowing cane at the end of the process.
An extremely luxurious piece, ideal as a substantial centerpiece or to enrich a collection of historic glass.
