Description from the seller
A charming piece of early 20th-century French bed linen, distinguished by its generous width, beautifully raised initials and decorative open-thread work. Its appeal lies in the balance between understated elegance and delightful embroidered details, making it an attractive choice for anyone wishing to dress a bed with authentic antique linen.
The initials J.D. are embroidered in solid, high relief, each letter embellished with delicate floral motifs. Beneath them, three bouquets of flowers appear to be carried by butterfly-like figures, adding a touch of whimsy to the design.
Two rows of generous open-thread work frame the initials, while a further broad band of open-thread work extends across the full width of the linen, lending the piece both character and refinement.
For its period, the width is particularly generous at 2m20, making this an excellent choice for a bed up to 1m80 wide, with a pleasing and generous overhang on either side.
A lovely example of traditional French bed linen, combining simplicity, fine needlework and practical elegance.
