Among Friends

Three women sit side by side. Their gazes, facial expressions, and postures are different. They share a common moment, yet each seems to bring her own story.

The faces come forward clearly, while the bodies are only partly worked out and dissolve into open lines and generous light areas. Muted blues, grays, and pink tones meet vibrant yellow lines.

I am interested in such everyday encounters. People who come together, talk to each other, laugh, or simply sit beside one another. Often it is precisely these unremarkable moments that tell us something about our relationships.

"Among Friends" is a large-format, contemporary figurative painting about community, individuality, and the small stories of human togetherness.

About me:
"My painting moves at the boundary between figuration and abstraction - a tension-filled dialogue of expressive gesture, intense color worlds and intuitive dynamics.
Inspired by the energy of Abstract Expressionism, which moves between body and dissolution, chaos and harmony."

Mila Veljac'a is a visual artist from Croatia. She studied at art academies in Croatia, Vienna, Salzburg and Stuttgart and for several years shared her expertise as a lecturer in visual arts.
