An original, limited-edition bronze medal by Dante Manetti (circa 1930) in high relief, about 50 mm in diameter, depicting a centaur with a classical allegorical female figure, signed D. Manetti on the front and with the five Olympic rings and the inscription Comitato Olimpico Nazionale Italiano on the reverse.
Description from the seller
Elegant high-relief bronze art medal, a work by the renowned Tuscan sculptor and medalist Dante Manetti.
Allegorical depiction inspired by classical and mythological themes, of exceptional plastic force. In the center stands a powerful male figure, a centaur, who in his left hand holds a small statue (an Eager Victory or a classical simulacrum). Next to him, on the right, a solemn female figure in classical dress (peplos) who wields a lance or scepter. On the right margin the designer's initials are clearly visible: D. MANETTI.
On the reverse appear the five Olympic rings and the inscription “COMITATO OLIMPICO NAZIONALE ITALIANO”.
The medal features a beautiful raised relief and a patina coherent with its age.
Period: presumably the 1930s
Material: silvered bronze / silvered metal
Diameter: about 50 mm
Condition: good, with normal signs and patina due to age; reliefs well preserved.
An interesting piece of historic memorabilia of the CONI and the history of Italian sport, particularly suitable for collectors of sports medals, CONI items, and Italian medallic art of the period.
