Description from the seller
FULL-BRONZE RADHA STATURE – INDIA, ODISH A (ORISSA) REGION – 18th / 19th CENTURY
• Designation: A devotional statuette representing Radha, Krishna's eternal divine companion.
• Origin / Style: Eastern India, Odisha Province (formerly Orissa). Folk and traditional devotional art linked to the Bhakti movement.
• Era: Late 18th century or early 19th century.
• Technique: Solid cast bronze with lost-wax (full casting). Copper alloy.
Aesthetic description:
The deity is depicted standing on a circular pedestal molded in the shape of an inverted lotus (padmasana). The bare torso shows a light, graceful torsion; the arms are extended to either side, one hand open forward in a welcoming gesture. The face, with great softness, bears the stylized and captivating features typical of Orissa art: large almond-shaped eyes finely carved beneath arched brows, a pronounced aquiline nose, and a serene smile. Her hair is pulled back and tied in a low, layered bun. She is adorned with large round pearl earrings and molded necklaces around the neck. A Sanskrit inscription (scratched) on the terrace.
Condition and technical characteristics:
• Height: 21.5 cm
• Weight: 2.130 kg (Exceptional weight confirming a high-density solid cast)
• Conservation state: Very good overall condition. Beautiful patina of natural, smooth wear, nuanced by time. The reverse of the base is left raw from the casting with authentic verdigris oxidation traces and hollow-mold residues, attesting to its age and artisanal craftsmanship. No modern restoration.
