Atrani, a 2020+ oil painting by Vincenzo Caiazza from Italy, hand-signed, depicting a maritime landscape with the Collegiata di Santa Maria Maddalena.
Description from the seller
"Atrani", a work by Vincenzo Caiazza offers a suggestive and vibrant view of the famous hamlet on the Amalfi Coast.
The composition unfolds vertically, capturing the perched architecture typical of the area. The central and dominant element is the Collegiata di Santa Maria Maddalena, recognizable by its maiolica-green dome that stands out against the sky, paired with a tall square-plan bell tower in warm, earthy tones. The sacred building and adjacent structures rest on the imposing arched structure of the coastal road, which serves as a transition between the town and the beach below.
On the left, the dense urban fabric of Atrani climbs along the rocky backdrop, with buildings in pastel shades ranging from antique pink to white and beige. The painting technique is distinguished by the use of a tactile, decisive brushstroke, probably applied with a spatula, which gives volume and a strong three-dimensional texture to the surfaces of the houses and the cliff.
The lower and eastern part of the painting is dominated by natural elements. On the right spreads the sea, painted in a deep, intense blue that fades to lighter, brighter tones near the shore, where it breaks on the beach and the rocks. The shore is rendered with grayish, bluish tones and touches of white for contrast, suggesting the movement of sea foam and the texture of wet sand. The light, coming from the right, vividly illuminates the façades facing that direction, creating clear shadows within the arches and on the left side of the mountains in the background.
