Description from the seller
For the enthusiast or collector: a beautiful pair by the well-known Belgian artist Octave Pirlet (1914–1979).
Pirlet studied at the Academy of Saint-Joost-ten-Noode and is known in Belgian art history for his powerful works influenced by Fauvism and Abstract Expressionism.
These two maritime works were acquired together and complement each other thematically and stylistically:
Work 1 (The Harbour View): A characteristic and powerful oil painting on canvas, executed in a pure, Fauvist style. The work depicts a lively quayside with fishing boats and coastal architecture, marked by bold color contrasts (such as the red boat) and a thick, lyrical brushstroke. Note: This specific canvas is not signed with a traditional signature but is 100 percent by Pirlet. The work measures approximately 40 by 50 cm.
Work 2 (The Sailboat): A more abstract modernist work with a beautiful play of flowing lines and transparency, depicting a sailboat on the water. This work is signed by hand by Octave Pirlet. The work measures approximately 70 by 40 cm.
