Description from the seller

PUGI – Bust of a veiled young woman with lowered eyes, marble, Florence, circa 1900

A face of devastating sweetness. This young woman with a peaceful gaze, the forehead crowned by a veil that falls in soft folds over her shoulders, radiates a rare serenity that evokes the Madonnas of the Tuscan Renaissance.

Signed PUGI, this sculpture illustrates the know-how of Florentine workshops, reputed since the 19th century for their marble busts. This honey- and ivory-toned marble gives the face an almost living luminosity, while the veil with its fluid folds catches the light. The contrast is superb with the drapery in gray-veined white stone, edged with a frieze of finely carved Greek-key motifs that bring a neoclassical breath.

The bust rests on a faceted/base, stable and elegant. On a console, a sideboard, a fireplace or a bookcase, it brings calm and poetry to your interior. A beautiful piece for the admirer of Italian sculpture, of classical décor, or religious works of art.
