Icon - Mother of God - Wood - Hand-painted - 21 x 27 cm

Orthodox icon depicting the Mother of God of Tenderness (Eleousa), in the Vladimir Virgin type. The Christ Child nestles his cheek against His Mother's in a gesture of affection, a motif among the most venerated in Byzantine and Russian tradition.

Traditional inscriptions: MP ΘY (Mother of God) and IC XC (Jesus Christ). Background and halos with gilded highlights, maphorion in purple adorned with stars, a beautiful palette of browns, ochres and blues.

Hand-painted on a wooden panel. Handwritten inscription on the back: « Mănăstirea Văratec – România – 1992 ». It attests to the origin of the icon, created at the Văratec Monastery (Romanian Moldova), known for its tradition of iconography.

Two small nails on the back for hanging.

Condition: good overall. Light wear and small chips on the edges and corners, some signs of use on the varnished surface. See photos.
