Description from the seller
YUNI R. P.'s painting is built from a direct, physical relationship with matter. Working primarily with oil on canvas and discarding the brush in favor of the spatula, the artist develops a pictorial surface where color is not limited to describing the image: it gains volume, direction, and movement.
The spatula allows him to deposit, drag, and layer the oil through broad, decisive gestures. From this process emerge surfaces of considerable material-chromatic richness, where colors are partially on the canvas without completely losing their individuality. This feature constitutes one of the most recognizable elements of his language: intense blues, turquoise, solar yellows, oranges, reds, and whites confront and intermix in a very bright palette.
Although his output includes landscapes, gardens, figures, and urban scenes, in recent years the sea has become one of the great axes of his painting. Sails, ports, coastlines, reflections, and horizons appear repeatedly, transformed by a gaze that privileges sensory experience over meticulous description. His residence in Havana and everyday proximity to the coastal landscape thus find a natural reflection in his imagined world.
formally, his work engages with certain principles of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism: capturing changing light, chromatic fragmentation, and the intention to convey an impression rather than a photographic reproduction of the subject. In some of his seascapes there is even a perceived affinity with Joaquín Sorolla's luminist tradition, particularly in the interest in the radiance of the water and in the way whites, blues, and yellows turn the sea surface into a space of light. It is not about imitation, but about an affinity within a long tradition of artists fascinated by the relationship between sea, color, and luminosity.
However, YUNI R. P. pushes that tradition toward a more materially emphatic painting. The brushstroke remains visible and turns each color plane into a small structure. Up close, the painting can verge on abstraction; from a distance, those spots and directions reorganize themselves again as sails, reflections, vegetation, figures, or horizons. That tension between abstraction and representation is one of the most engaging aspects of his work.
Photographs can hardly fully convey this character. In front of the canvas, the relief of oil and the changes produced by incident light give the works a presence and depth that exceed the two-dimensional image. The result is an immediate, vital, and recognizable painting, characterized by strong chromatic energy and by a deeply optimistic vision of the landscape.
Yuniesky Rodríguez Peña's public career includes solo and group exhibitions in Cuba and the presence of his work in international private collections. His work has also been disseminated internationally through platforms and organizations devoted to contemporary art. His works are collected in several places in Europe both privately and institutionally.

This oil on canvas work is a serene and imposing rural landscape in an expressionist and impressionist style, characterized by a vibrant application of color and a rich tactile texture created with spatula impasto. The composition is magnificently structured in overlapped horizontal planes: in the foreground lies a dense tapestry of stylized flowers with circular strokes in cobalt blue, lime green, and white, bursting dramatically with a solitary red flower that acts as a dynamic focal point. Beyond, the view shifts to a warm golden field of cereals dotted by a lush magenta shrub and small groves, as a path opens up leading toward a serene body of water and majestic blue mountains in the background. Crowned by a sky of turquoise tones and soft white clouds, the painting achieves a harmonious balance between the freshness of the cool palette and the warmth of the central landscape, conveying a deep sense of spaciousness, calm, and natural vitality.
