Description from the seller
Special American M1 helmet from World War II, on the name of a soldier who survived one of the heaviest episodes of the Ardennes Offensive!
This original American M1 helmet bears the personal name marking of Staff Sergeant Edward K. Brakenridge, a documented veteran of the legendary 106th Infantry Division – 422nd Infantry Regiment, nicknamed the Golden Lions.
An impressive war story
In December 1944 his regiment found itself in the Schnee Eifel, near Sankt Vith, when the German army launched the Ardennes Offensive on December 16.
After fierce fighting large parts of the 422nd and 423rd Infantry Regiments were encircled. On December 19, 1944 followed a massive surrender, with thousands of American soldiers ending up in German captivity.
Edward K. Brakenridge was one of the American servicemen taken prisoner during the Ardennes Offensive.
His time as a prisoner of war in Germany and his later liberation are documented in historical American newspaper articles and military records.
However, his story did not end in 1945. According to the official WWII Registry of the American Battle Monuments Commission he served no fewer than 31 years in the American Army!
