Ducatus Brabantiae Nova Delineatio is a hardbound, limited edition, numbered bilingual book by Mathieu Franssen and Emy Thorissen, 152 pages, 43 x 30 cm, published in 2019 by Provincie Noord-Brabant; 's-Hertogenbosch & Brabant-Collectie, Tilburg University, in near-new condition.
Description from the seller
The wall map of the Duchy of Brabant, “The Roman-Visscher Map” was issued by Nicolaas Visscher of Amsterdam, who collaborated with Zacharias Roman of Middelburg; hence it is called the Roman-Visscher map.
Over Brabant, hundreds of maps have been drawn and printed over time, but none is as impressive as the so-called Roman-Visscher map from the seventeenth century.
Even the size is impressive, for the map measures 1.67 by 2.17 meters.
Such wall maps, hand-coloured, mounted on linen and equipped with hanging rods, cost a fortune even in the period when they were made. They were meant as a showpiece in an interior, for example in a council chamber in the town hall, or simply at home on the wall for a wealthy person.
Van Rietontwerpers (Graaf van Solmsweg 85) has designed a book on behalf of the Brabant Collection about a study of this map (vanrietontwerpers.nl/boek-roman-visscher-kaart).
The book is therefore written by Emy Thorissen and Mathieu Franssen.
It is an exclusive corporate gift from the Commissioner of the King, Wim van de Donk, and not available in bookstores.
Green leatherette hard covers, beautifully decorated with an embossed design. Bound book.
Edition: 350 copies.
Dimensions: 43 x 30 cm.
The book is in new condition. Not signed.
