Condition: Excellent structural state. The work has undergone a professional re-stretching and re-stretching intervention recently on a modern wedge-slat frame, which guarantees perfect tension and long-term preservation of the canvas. The painted surface appears stable, with a splendid patina and the characteristic contemporaneous craquelure. Small targeted restorations from the past were revealed during consolidation operations.

Historical-artistic description of the work:
A precious and imposing oil on canvas depicting one of the most dramatic and expressive moments of the Passion of Christ: the Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane. The composition unfolds on multiple diagonal registers typical of the Baroque: in the upper left stands the luminous figure of the angel bearing the cup of martyrdom; in the center, wrapped in a warm red tunic, Jesus is depicted kneeling in an attitude of intense and moving prayer. At the bottom of the canvas lie the three apostles (Peter, James, and John), overcome by sleep and swathed in folds with rich chromatic shading.
The stylistic characteristics, the dramatic use of chiaroscuro contrasts, and the rendering of the faces decisively recall the fortunate Emiliano painting tradition of the Seicento, deeply influenced by the naturalistic and classicist revolution of the Carracci. A work of great visual impact, of ideal dimensions for both private collecting and high interior decoration.
