Icon - Glass, Wood, Plaster

Convolute of four religious icon objects, consisting of a framed depiction of the Mother of God with Child and three decorative, hand-painted egg-shaped icons with separate black mounts.

The framed icon shows the Virgin Mary with the Jesus child in a vividly colored, strongly contoured depiction with a clear reference to Romanian Orthodox folk art. On the back there is a handwritten inscription, including the readable note “Făgăraș, Jud. Brașov.” A specific attribution to an artist is not known.

The three egg-shaped icons depict different Christian scenes, including Christ Pantokrator, the Virgin Mary with Child, and a Christ/Resurrection scene. They are each presented on a black-framed, ornately designed stand.

The exact material or painting technique of the framed icon as well as the egg-shaped image carriers has not been definitively determined. Accordingly, the eggs are not expressly guaranteed to be ostrich eggs or any other natural material.

The items are in an authentic used condition with age- and wear-related traces. In particular, the three egg icons show abrasions, color losses, chipping, and surface traces. Frames and mounts also show corresponding signs of use. The existing traces and damages have been deliberately documented in the pictures and not concealed.

The collection comes from a household liquidations and is offered in the condition found. Please regard all photos as part of the condition description.
