Description from the seller
Ancient sugar shaker from the Vienna workshop Carl Wermuth, 1850s. (Maker's mark “CW” under a crown in a horizontal oval confirmed). Solid silver. Stamped with the official old Austrian duty mark or Radl punch (cross shield). Assayed at 13 loth (finest 812.5 / 1000 real silver).
Elegant, baluster-shaped body on a curved, profiled stand. The wall is divided into pronounced vertical folds (flutings). The panels are masterfully hand-worked with repoussé and finely chased rosettes, floral scrolls, tendrils and fine punch decorations (grained field).
The cap (sugar cap) is lightly domed, follows the curved basic form of the body and features artfully hand-cut sawwork (saw-decor) that serves as a sugar sieve. The lid closes precisely as a screw closure.
